How To Find An Excellent Restaurant in Cambridgeshire

February 26, 2020
Eating out is a great way of catching up with friends and family. Whether it is a regular catch up or an annual visit, you want to make sure the setting is right for the perfect catch up with loved ones. It is important that you choose the right restaurant to result in the perfect catch up. But how can you find an excellent restaurant in Cambridgeshire?

Think Location

Think about the location you want to be in. Would you like to be next to a busy high street, in the middle of a housing estate or with a beautiful backdrop? Here at Pike N Eel we are set next to beautiful landscapes and a river. This is really nice to see out of the windows, but also for a gentle stroll before or after your meal.

Check the Menu

Every family or group of friends will have a picky eater. Make sure you check the menu out for the restaurant online. This will give you an idea of the food you can expect, meaning you can make sure that everyone will have something yummy to eat. Check the menu to make sure they serve fresh and local produce too as this will always be more delicious for you and your guests.

Food and Hygiene

Check out the food and hygiene rating of the restaurant before dining. You won’t be able to see the kitchen and their hygiene standards yourself. However, the food and hygiene rating will tell you how serious the restaurant takes their hygiene. These ratings can be found online easily and will often be on the website of the restaurant too.

Reviews

Don’t just look at the restaurant website for reviews. The restaurant could just post the best reviews on their website. Instead check out reviews on the internet, in the local press and on social media. This will then show you what ‘real’ people felt about the restaurant and their dining experience.

If you’re looking to find an excellent restaurant in Cambridgeshire, why not check us out? We would highly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

February is fast approaching and that means Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us too. This is one of the most popular days for wedding proposals to take place. Have you decided that now is the time to tell your loved one how special they are to you? Popping the question can be a scary prospect for many people. You want to make it special so it is spoken about for years to come. You want a story your grandkids can tell their grandkids. It needs to be special, but not so special that your partner expects it. For example, if you were to book a weekend in Paris over Valentine’s Day your partner and everyone you know would expect a proposal. Every time you bent down to tie your shoelace, pick up something off the floor or sat down your partner would be waiting for the big question. However, when you go to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day there is no added pressure. It’s just a nice meal out on Valentine’s Day. Because there are no expectations, there is no pressure. This creates a much more relaxing and enjoyable evening for you both. So, how can you create the perfect proposal in a restaurant? There are many different ways you can do this and we would love to be part of the restaurant planning process. For example, we could pop the ring in a glass of fizz for your loved one. As we place the glass in front of them they will see the ring and you can pop the question. This can be done at the beginning of the meal if you can feel yourself getting nervous about popping the question. Another option is for us to place your engagement ring in the dessert. While it means you need to hold your nerve a little longer, it is the perfect end to a lovely meal out and a wonderful surprise for your loved one. There are lots of different ways we can help you create the perfect restaurant proposal this Valentine’s Day. Whether you have ideas of your own that you would like us to be part of, or you would like to chat to us about ways we have helped create the perfect proposal in our restaurant before – we would be happy to help.

Here at the Pike & Eel Hotel we have 8 spacious bedrooms and some gorgeous chalets that look out over the beautiful marina. Lots of guests choose to dine with us and spend a night or two in our modern, elegant and stylish accommodation too. And why not? There are lots of things to do in the local area; Houghton Mill Just down the road is Houghton Mil. It is a National Trust location and has wonderful woods and rivers waiting to be explored. You can also explore the working 18th century water mill while experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of this historic and stunning building in action. Holt Island Nature Reserve Holt Island is an island off of the River Great Ouse, on the edge of St Ives. It was once a hive of activity where willow was grown for basket making, before being shipped down the river to market. This haven for wildlife is now maintained by volunteers and is a beautiful place for the whole family to enjoy. You can see the volunteers in action making baskets and more from April til September. Outside of these months you can still explore the nature reserve. The Norris Museum This is a free museum that tells the stories of Huntingdonshire from 160 million years ago, right up to the present day. There are a range of temporary exhibits, events and activities taking place at different times throughout the year. This museum is well worth visiting and will take you around 45 minutes to fully enjoy. St Ives Bridge St Ives is well known as a very pretty medieval place and we don’t feel you can visit St Ives without enjoying St Ives Bridge. The bridge leads directly to the town, but while walking over the bridge you can enjoy stunning views across the river and take wonderful photos of the river, the greenery, the ducks and swans and the odd passing boat too. Don’t forget to walk over the bridge and into the town, less than 1 minute walk into the town and you will see the impressive Oliver Cromwell statue. Boat Trips and Boat Hire St Ives is blessed with a pretty river and wonderful views on both sides of the river. The best way to enjoy these views is to book a boat trip or hire a boat and go off on your own adventure. The rivers are calm and offer a truly delightful and peaceful experience as you explore the local sights along the riverbank. The Raptor Foundation A short drive from the Pile and Eel and you can find The Raptor Foundation. This venue offers a wonderful day out for the whole family, or you can book private experiences too. They have owls, hawks, eagles, meerkats, lizards and more. Check out their timings of their flight displays too as these are something not to be missed. Johnsons Farm Old Hurst This is known locally as the Crocodile Farm, but it has grown to so much more. They have a tropical house with crocodiles that can be seen easily. You can also see the parrots, wallabies, pigs, bulls, goats, sheep and more. There is a woodland wildlife walk where you need to look out for some unusual wild animals, and there is a park too. It is a completely free day out where you can enjoy the outside activities, or pop into their farm shop where you can buy delicious meats, cheeses, locally sourced alcohol and more. St Ives Golf Course If you enjoy the odd game of golf, you will not be let down by St Ives Golf Course. This club dates back to 1923 and is recognised as one of the finest golf venues in East of England. St Ives Golf Course also offers a Short Game Area and a floodlit Driving Range. The setting boasts an environment in which wildlife flourishes and a fantastic game of golf can be enjoyed. These are just some of the things you can do locally while staying at the Pike and Eel Hotel and Marina. However if you are looking for more local ideas, please give us a call.
