This Parish, which includes both villages, extends east from St. Ives along the north bank of the River Great Ouse. Residential development has been extensive in recent years and in 1995, a by-pass around Needingworth was completed.

The village of Needingworth, which developed along the former Turnpike Road from St. Ives to Ely, was largely rebuilt following a major fire in September 1847 when all but a few 17th and 18th Century houses survived, notably "The Chestnuts" which dates from 1710.
This is now a private house. Ancient fire hooks displayed in the High Street, commemorate this sad event. In Overcote Ferry stands the Pike and Eel, a 300 year old inn beside the River Great Ouse with its own moorings and marina. The Village Lock-up or Cage, for the short-term imprisonment of local drunks or felons before they could be moved to larger accommodation, was built in 1838 and is situated in the centre of the village near the War Memorial.

"We visited for an evening meal and pint, when you got to the end of the long lane we were impressed with the location set by the river Ouse. The bar is cosy and has been sympathetically renovated recently with out losing any character. We had a choice of 3 real ales that we love and enjoyed a meal of BBQ chicken wings and a main of fish and chips. No complaints, we will certainly be revisiting soon."

"We're moored at nearby GOBA moorings and went to hotel for menu and find out if dog friendly. Staff very helpful let us take menu and said dogs very welcome. Went for evening meal, uncomplicated menu just few dishes but good variety, very spacious restaurant with lovely views of river. Food good and staff friendly will definitely go again."
